Koinonia Selma

Better Together — A Greater Future as One Church

The Big Picture

In early 2025, the leadership teams of New Day Church and Koinonia Church entered into a season of prayerful conversation about the future of ministry in Selma. Over years of relationship, shared mission, and mutual trust, it became clear that God was leading us into a new season—one church, united in vision, strengthened in mission, and positioned for greater Kingdom impact.

In August 2025, the governing boards of both churches unanimously agreed to move forward with a merger. Responding to the leading of the Holy Spirit, we are taking a step of faith to reach more people with the gospel, steward leadership and resources wisely, and build a healthier, more sustainable future for the church in Selma.

The result of this process will be Koinonia Church Selma.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are we pursuing a merger?

We believe we are better together. Both churches share a heart for reaching people, making disciples, and serving the community. Through prayer and discernment, leadership recognized that a united church would be stronger, healthier, and more effective long-term than continuing separately.

What kind of merger is this?

This is a rebirth-style merger.

New Day Church’s 501(c)(3) will dissolve, and all assets will be gifted to Koinonia Church. Ministry will relaunch with renewed vision, leadership covering, and structure as Koinonia Church Selma.

What will the new church be called?

The church will be a campus of Koinonia Church called Koinonia Church Selma.

What will happen to New Day’s leadership?
  • Pastor Chad Fagundes will serve as Campus Pastor of Koinonia Church Selma.
  • Pastor Chris Goldsmith has joined the Koinonia staff as a full-time pastor, providing leadership continuity and pastoral care.
What happens to New Day’s property and finances?

All New Day assets will transfer to Koinonia Church. New Day brings no debt into the merger. Koinonia Church’s existing mortgage remains budgeted and responsibly serviced.

When will this happen?

We are targeting a launch date of Mother’s Day 2026.

Who made the decision to merge?

Both governing boards unanimously approved the merger in August 2025. The New Day board will oversee final dissolution and asset transfer as part of the agreed process.
